A lot of people seemed skeptical of my motives when I wrote my first book. Some people were under the impression that I was writing for the money. Let me be the first to tell you that is about as far from the truth as you can get, especially when you publish by yourself. There is hardly any money to be made as a writer unless you work your ass off to make that money. I knew this wasn't going to make me an overnight sensation. I wrote the book because it was something that I had wanted to do for a long time. I was thrilled when people were actually interested in reading it more so when people enjoyed it. The book did exceed my expectations as far as sales go. I honestly thought it wouldn't even sell. The book didn't sell enough for me to give up my day job or for me to pay the bills each month, but it performed decent enough to make me happy. Again this is not the type of project you release and then make thousands of dollars a year. Like I said that is possible if you work your ass off. I had to deal with the fact that I was in a niche. Gay fiction is a hard genre to move and appeal to anyone outside that reader group. While my goal wasn't all about the money I did want to reach new fans. I set up an interview with my local newspaper, got on online radio to promote and blasted some social media writing groups. That was my effort and it paid off in the way that I wanted it to. I gained new fans and got a few people who otherwise wouldn't buy the book to buy the book!
I am looking ahead to doing 2 more projects! One is a sci-fi style paranormal story. The other is going to be an autobiography. I'll be sure to keep you posted on both projects.
